Rewiring is a video work made from a game engine and motion capture technology. It inquires how humans control the virtual digital bodies in the digital era, while explores the lust and fantasies derived from the control technologies. With “first-person shooter” games as the point of departure, the work investigates the effective control of characters through keyboards and mouse in computer games in the early days and how such control mode has evolved into the virtual reality and motion capture modes today in time. Along the long road of evolution, is it human that designed the control method over the digital body on the basis of his/her bodily experience, or the digital bodily experience that reshaped a player’s understanding of his/her flesh?
