UTF-8 (8-bit Unicode Transformation Format) is the most dominant character coding format on the Internet. Texts stored or transmitted in emails, webpages, or dating apps are all encoded using UTF-8. The work encoded the posts and discussions on the boards of “Sex”, “Boy-Girl”, etc. on the famous forum in Taiwan and converted them into binary signals. Next, the signals of 0s and 1s are used as the basis for on and off of loudspeakers for them to produce series of clipping sounds. Although the words are vocabularies rich in emotions as we know it, the encoding process seems to deconstruct these words and empty their original meanings. Upon materialization of signals into sounds, none of the emotions are communicated. Under such circumstances, when a receiver in the online world receives messages, how do emotions are transmitted and decoded? In addition, the artist aims to demonstrate the unique auditory experience in the digital backend space via the work while to engage an experiment on false sounds in line with his recent practices.
