Johannes Binotto

Johannes Binotto is a Swiss cultural and media scholar, video essayist and experimental filmmaker. He teaches film and media theory at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and at the University of Zurich. In his experimental video essays, which have won the BFI/ Sight&Sound poll for best video essays both in 2021 and 2022, he explores the transferences between philosophy and media technology and their effects on our bodies and perceptions. He currently leads the SNSF research project “VideoEssay. Futures of Audiovisual Research and Teaching”.
