Since news platforms transformed from paper to Internet-based, the means of information acquisition has become increasingly interactive with PTT, a gossip information circulation network station developed independently by the common people. Whether Internet readers are choosing what they want to read, or journalistic justice has become a fake issue, remains a question to be answered by organizations which conduct network media research and have influence on the Internet.
We are a team built voluntarily by a group of people who care about society. Out of concern that the misinformation rife in society may cause financial losses and even harm our health and families, we walk onto the street to communicate with people face to face. We also organize seminars across Taiwan. Using real examples in our daily lives and in-person interactions, we show the public how to identify misinformation and guide them on how to verify information using their cell phones.
A graduate from the NTU Graduate Institute of Psychology and a freelance writer driven by interest, the speaker is concerned about how information technology developments have changed people’s perception of the external world and their interactions with the environment. Having written for Watchout, The News Lens, and PanSci, the speaker uses the perspectives of social and cognitive psychology to analyze how the manipulator supply chain creates eye-catching misinformation attacks that spread rapidly like a virus. In the meantime, the speaker points out how information verification has failed to keep up with the speed of virus spread due to limitations of the algorithms used in attention economy.
