War of Memory
It is not entirely impossible to wonder: what if there is a war between Taiwan and China? This guerrilla theater explores how information replaces memory through algorithmic techniques. In particular, this theater is a virtual and imagined guerrilla war between China and Taiwan.War of Memory is based on street warfare. By a set of information perpetrators, the theater spreads virtual warfare memory obtained from online users and on-site audiences to passers-by’s smartphones or shows it on users’ social networks. The artist, Yi-Shan SHIH, will regenerate a new virtual scene of warfare between China and Taiwan through personal memory collected from social media (including images, videos, voices, and texts).
Founder of the Declaration of Airborne Own-Body Kinetic Energy, Yi-Shan SHIH organized the Technological Objects and Human Illusions Laboratory in the name of a fictitious researcher Ho-Wang LAI. SHIH has long engaged in various research projects and discussions surrounding “technological objects” conducted in the mode of “connections of topics.” From 2021 on, the artist has sequentially developed research projects themed around popular culture, including “Chinese Internet Slang Words in Social Machines,” “Black Box Market,” “Network Anonymity Mechanism,” “Artificial Intelligence as Subject in Social Network Ecology,” “Future Penalty Modes Based in Digital Twin Technology (Punishment 2030),” and “Economy of Chinese-Style Playing at 2x Speed and High-Speed Network.”
