There are no barriers between us, yet you never met my eyes even once.
This piece gained form due to Xie Zhen, who was often idle at home due to the pandemic in 2020. After Hsieh made friends on the Internet and got to know them better, conversations started getting longer, fuller, and smoother. It seems that they were right next to each other, instead of being on opposite sides of the city. Afterwards, the two met up in person, assuming that communication in the real world would be as smooth as it was in the virtual world. However, the two were not only separated by a table, but by intangible “things” that do not exist in the physical world. The situation cannot accurately be described but do have a significant presence. The virtual world creates the illusion of being close to others, which may not still exists when people meet up in person. This piece represents the interpersonal relationships of today and the confusion between virtual and reality.
