Artworks
Voronoi is an algorithm of partitioning a plane into regions while maintaining an equal distance and balance between each region. The configuration resembles many natural regions, indicating that there is still an operating pattern even in the seemingly ordinary spatial configuration. Voronoi Guess 2 displays the artist’s exploration of combining Voronoi partition and origami as he attempts to find out “if there exists an inscribed circle within each polygon derived from Voronoi partition.” The attempt is simultaneously a hypothesis as well as an experiment and a verification because the existence of inscribed circles within polygons will determine whether it is possible to perform Voronoi partition through origami.
In an era of rapid technological development and massive data, is there a pattern dictating our existence, our ordinary life and the relationships between people? Many people have ventured their guesses; however, some guesses are based on intuition and are still difficult to prove. Therefore, the artist hopes to prompt discussions about these guesses through mathematical and origami observation and experience. Moreover, the work reflects how the world we dwell in is itself filled with innumerous guesses; perhaps we are precisely the underlying pattern that cannot be proven.
