Artworks
Millennium Ginseng Project comprises of three sub-projects, respectively titled Extreme Greenhouse, Moon Ginseng and Time Machine Farm. Ginseng mostly grows in a harsh, natural environment and takes the shape of a human body. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that the consumption of ginseng contributes to the supplement “Jing Qi” (meaning vitality). Most people also believe that wild ginseng is more potent than the ones cultivated in farms, and such a belief has led to the problem of ecological conservation. In light of this issue, Millennium Ginseng Project attempts to propose a future scenario and provides a possible win-win solution through virtual, sci-fi imagination. The project guides the audience to understand how the future of Chinese medicine can potentially be through the collaboration of the science and art worlds. The project not only helps protect the endangered plant but also sustains the spirit of traditional Chinese medicine. Through this project that integrates scientific theory and mythology, the artist paints a vivid sci-fi fantasy incorporated with Asian futuristic perspective while anticipating a future from a non-Western viewpoint.
